Building in public.

Rob Lennon here ā€”

Welcome to 81 new readers.

šŸŸ” It's CreatorBoost.

You sometimes hear the advice that you should read outside your discipline.

Itā€™s been a luxury to be able to work for myself and take extra days or hours off here and there to think about writing fiction again.

To be honest, fiction is something I deeply miss. One of the driving forces for me wanting to grow my own business is to have the freedom to finally write that kind of stuff again.

And so Iā€™ve been playing with subtxt.app, a tool that attempts to help you understand the mind-boggling Dramamtica theory of story by letting you generate AI examples of how it manifests in the narrative.

This approach got my brain unconsciously thinking about business content differently

And after a dozen or so hours of playing with Subtxt, my brain combined a bunch of other information from experiments with ChatGPT, writing tweets, deconstructing threads, and doing all the rest.

I had a eureka moment so profound it made me feel nauseous with excitement and dread.

I tried out my theory using a few different AI tools, and it worked. So I dropped everything, and started creating a course out of it.

Seizing opportunity

You can feel the opportunity. The technology has been there all year, but when ChatGPT hit, something shifted. Suddenly, millions of people were willing to give it a shot. Talking to an AI didnā€™t seem so intimidating anymore.

2023, in my opinion, is going to clearly be a year dominated by these advances.

My unique niche is Audience Building + Authenticity. I teach a generous, audience-first approach to building and monetizing an audience, with a focus on high-quality content, not click-bait.

At first you might think that AI is at odds with this approach. And indeed, it easily can be. The applications of AI in most tweet scheduling tools, where they take other peopleā€™s tweets and rephrase them, for example, arenā€™t my thing.

An assistant who never tires

What Iā€™ve found in AI, is a writing assistant that never tires of answering questions and performing editing tasks, and who has memorized most of the knowledge on the internet.

This isnā€™t exactly someone to get to write everything for you with zero direction, but, when provided the right questions and prompts, in the right order, they can quickly lead you to brilliant ideas.

Itā€™s then, up to you, the writer, to discern what is most important, what to cut, and whether to weave in your unique experiences, voice, or other details to make the writing come alive.

You never have to start with anything close to a blank page again.

I started building in public

I tweeted about my discovery when I had it.

To be honest, I felt like throwing up. I had figured out something that Iā€™d never seen mentioned anywhere on the internet.

Itā€™s a system, an approach, a way of thinking, a way of using AI, and it works with the existing technology.

And by sharing a bit about it, I started creating anticipation for my discovery. People were DMing me, telling me theyā€™d buy right now.

So I took a break and built a landing page real quick.

And I wasnā€™t even sure if I should sell the idea for $2500, or maybe $750. I decided on a $99 pre-sale because that letā€™s me go wide with this, even if it IS a thousand dollar idea.

Because I want to dominate this niche: Audience + Content + Authenticity + AI. I want to be first to market with a framework that absolutely crushes it.

Not to mention you donā€™t want to learn how to use AI from some industry insider hype man.

You want to learn it from a real writer who doesnā€™t have a stake in the industry, someone who started out skeptical and wary.

So yeah. In 2023, weā€™re going to build unstoppable audience growth machines, and some of that will come from using AIs to facilitate parts of the process in novel ways that nobody else is even thinking about.

Whatā€™s your opportunity?

Iā€™m inspired by Ken Carroll, who writes often about this idea of ā€œcreating new marketsā€.

I donā€™t know if Iā€™m creating a market (AI + authenticity + audience) or simply positioning myself uniquely, but this notion of stepping up and being leader really resonates with me.

So, I ask youā€”what are you a leader of?

Something that you can do for days on end and never get tired of?

What do you believe in so strongly that you want to lift others up and take them there with you?

Is your niche ready to have a moment with your guidance?

Was this written with AI?

People like to ask after I write stuff like this if a bot helped. Nope, not for something like this.

Good ā€˜ole from-the-heart, story-driven content only comes from one place for me. And itā€™ll continue to be.

šŸŸ” Pre-sales ftw

Lastly, it was Aprilynne's posting about doing a pre-sale that even lead me to talk about and release my product early.

Less than 4 hours into the announcement, I'm glad I did. This gives me reason to invest even more effort into making sure this product is epic.

If you're thinking of building something amazing, I suggest taking the time to pre-promote and pre-sell it too.

That's all for now. If you're celebrating this weekend, I hope you have a great one.

Let's get building.
